Riara ‘bucks’ trounce catholic university to reach quarter finals in nairobi nba playoffs
The Basketball Men’s team, the Riara Bucks, had a good run through the NBA League, finishing 2nd runners in their tier qualifying for playoffs to determine which team progresses to Division 2 whose matches are played at the state of the art Nyayo basketball gymnasium.
The Bucks put up a tough fight to edge out Catholic University in the best of 2 matches played on Saturday and Sunday at Railways Sports Complex winning both sets, 2:0, to proceed to the next round of quarter finals.
In the first set, Riara bucks nipped CUEA 71-68 in a nip and tuck encounter. NBA free throw shooter Nimrod Khendi contributed (22 points), Trevor Ochieng (11) and John Osoro (10) for Riara Bucks who also had a monster slam from Joseph Gitau and in the other hand Fred Shitemi contributed (20) and Mandela Oguche (13) for Catholic University
In the second set Riara University bucks shut out Catholic University 62-57. With top scores for the bucks coming from Nimrod Khendi (14), Evans Okullo (10) and Mandela Okoth (15) for CUEA.
Coach Zeddy praised the boys for their discipline, resilience and focus, enabling the team to secure the win. Team Captain Nimrod talked of a good preparation, team chemistry as the driving force for their success. “Personally I always give 100% commitment and dedication to winning a game” he said. The team is set to advance to the finals and earn a place in the National League.
