RLS students at the WTO (ELSA) Moot 2016 Edition

[metaslider id=6909]Riara Law School participated in the just concluded African round of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) moot court competition on the World Trade Organization (WTO) Law at Rhodes University in South Africa. The University was represented by law students, Alphonce Ogwel and Boru Gollo who were accompanied by Mr. Eric Kibet, a faculty member of Riara Law School.

The students had a fantastic experience while at the Eastern Cape of South Africa as they competed, interacted, and networked with students from Africa’s finest law schools. During the moot competition, the students confidently competed against graduate and masters students and only just missed out on reaching the quarter finals, with a difference of 1 point.

During the Trade Law competition, Alphonce and Boru also networked with WTO Law experts such as Mr. Lambert Botha, a Trade Law Practitioner with the firm of Hilton Lambert in Johannesburg and Dr. Petina Gapa a World Trade Organization lawyer from Zimbabwe. The experts enlightened the team on the importance of World Trade Law to third world countries. Their interaction with Law students from other universities about WTO also gave them insight on the importance of Trade Law in the integration of the East African Community.

The students, who also happen to be student leaders at Riara Law School, had the opportunity to interact with the moot coordinator of University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and gained valuable insight on how to manage the Mooting Society and enhance the mooting experience of Riara Law School students.
