Riara University Performance at The ICRC Moot Court Competition
Our students participated in the National International Humanitarian Law Moot Court competition at the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) on Friday 16th October 2015. Two teams of three students each, represented RU.
Riara Team 1, made up of Ruth Ogbewekon, Alphones Barack and Linchon Gesicho proceeded up to semi-finals after thrashing Kenya School of Law team 2 and Egerton University at the preliminaries and quarter-finals respectively. Riara was eliminated at semi-finals by Kenya School of Law team 1.
Ruth Ogbewekon (LLB 4.1) emerged the Best Oralist and Overall Best Oralist in the rounds. In addition, the Judges were impressed with the team and particularly with Lincoln Gesicho being a first year.
Riara team 2 (Boru Gollo, Linah Ogero and Samuel Kyalo) was eliminated at the preliminaries by Kenya School of Law Team 2; but not before giving KSL a run for their money. They put up a spirited fight. All the six team members are yet to study International Humanitarian Law (IHL). They taught themselves and competed well against teams who have previous exposure to IHL.
